The next international quantitative linguistics conference (QUALICO
) will be held in Graz (Austria), sept. 17-20, 2009. Call for
Papers and Pre-Registration are open.
Call for Papers
The Call for Papers is open. Submissions from any scholar working on aspects
of quantitative linguistics and quantitative text analysis are welcome.
Papers will be preferred on topics considering the specific interrelations
between text and language (system) from a quantitative linguistics perspective.
In addition to these topics, we encourage submissions concentrating on, but not limited to:
Mathematical / statistical foundations
Quantitative Text Analysis (authorship attribution, stylistics, text classification, etc.)
Quantitative Corpus Analysis (linguistic laws)
Each paper will be allotted thirty minutes (20 + 10 minutes for discussion).
for submissions is April 30, 2009
. For submission information and abstract specifications, see Submission Information
should be in English. Data projectors, overhead projectors etc. will be provided.
We particularly want to encourage young scholars to participate in this conference.
The participation fee charged per attending person equals the sum of one annual fee for IQLA, differing according to participant's status: academic professionals € 100, post-docs € 50, pre-docs € 40 (to be paid in advance).
Participation fees cover the abstract booklet and other conference materials, as well as refreshments and snacks during pauses throughout the whole conference, but they do not include meals, sightseeing tours or other social events.
Participation fees are 30% reduced for IQLA members.
All pre-registrations received before early application deadline (april 30, 2009) are 25% reduced (early IQLA members' registration fees are 50% reduced).
IQLA and the local organizers seek to provide financial support to cover travel, accomodation and living expenses during the conference for conference participants and IQLA members.
The amount of support depends on the type of IQLA membership (for details see the Membership Description
), the distance of the applicant’s living place to the conference venue, and on the general budget and funds available. Conference participants interested in support are asked to contact IQLA Treasurer
by e-mail and send an informal letter, including IQLA membership information and reliable information as to travel costs. The application deadline for financial support is April 30, 2009.
