The next international quantitative linguistics conference (QUALICO 2009) will be held in Graz (Austria), sept. 17-20, 2009. Call for Papers and Pre-Registration are open.The Call for Papers is open. Submissions from any scholar working on aspects of quantitative linguistics and quantitative text analysis are welcome. Papers will be preferred on topics considering the specific interrelations between text and language (system) from a quantitative linguistics perspective. In addition to these topics, we encourage submissions concentrating on, but not limited to:
Each paper will be allotted thirty minutes (20 + 10 minutes for discussion). The deadline for submissions is April 30, 2009. For submission information and abstract specifications, see Submission Information. Presentations should be in English. Data projectors, overhead projectors etc. will be provided. We particularly want to encourage young scholars to participate in this conference.
Participation Fees
The participation fee charged per attending person equals the sum of one annual fee for IQLA, differing according to participant's status: academic professionals € 100, post-docs € 50, pre-docs € 40 (to be paid in advance). Participation fees cover the abstract booklet and other conference materials, as well as refreshments and snacks during pauses throughout the whole conference, but they do not include meals, sightseeing tours or other social events.

Financial Support
IQLA and the local organizers seek to provide financial support to cover travel, accomodation and living expenses during the conference for conference participants and IQLA members. The amount of support depends on the type of IQLA membership (for details see the Membership Description), the distance of the applicant’s living place to the conference venue, and on the general budget and funds available. Conference participants interested in support are asked to contact IQLA Treasurer by e-mail and send an informal letter, including IQLA membership information and reliable information as to travel costs. The application deadline for financial support is April 30, 2009.

Your abstract should be of relevance for quantitative linguistics, and it should demonstrate the paper's relevance to the conference's topic. All abstracts will be anonymously reviewed by independent reviewers; submitters will be informed about the result of the reviewing process, and they will have an opportunity to comment the reviews, if necessary. Abstracts should be in English, and they should not exceed 500 words. Abstracts are requested to be submitted in two variants, i.e. both
(a) anonymously, without any personal data, as plain text in the abstract field, and
(b) with name, affiliation(s), email and correspondence address as attached PDF file.
The abstract text itself should be identical for both variants. The Submission of Abstract is possible only via the conference tool. Both variants should be submitted electronically via the EasyChair Conference Manager:

The contact author of the paper will receive an auto-generated notification of receipt via email. The abstracts must be submitted no later than April 30, 2009. Notifications of the Program Committee’s decisions will be sent out by June 2009. which will be available here, soon.
Registration goes automatically along with the notification of acceptance for submissions. Part of the conference fees will have to be paid soon after receipt of the notification.
All other registrations (e.g., participation without presentation, etc.) and pre-registration is possible via IQLA Office. Pre-registration until april 30, 2009, includes 25% reduction of conference fees.
Qualico 2009 will take place at Graz University, in the city of Graz, Austria.

Coming to Graz:
- Arriving at Vienna airport --> Shuttle to Wiener Südbahnhof --> Train to Graz (OEBB); tickets cost ca. 60 / 35 Euro (1st / 2nd class, one way).
- Arriving at Graz Airport --> Public Transport --> Graz City or Graz Railway Station from which it is a five-minute walk to the accommodation.
- Arriving by car --> Find the Way to Graz and leave your car at the accomodation (no fee for conference participants).

This place can very easily be reached by public transport (bus #63, 18-minute ride): there is a bus stop very close (ca. 100m) to the accomodation, leaving every 10 minutes (8:25 a.m., ff.) - leave the bus at the stop "Nibelungengasse". All other sessions will be held at the place of accommodation.
Accomodation is reserved for all participants at the Exerzitienhaus der Barmherzigen Schwestern, Mariengasse 12, where most part of the conference will take place. From the accomodation it is easy to go by Graz Public Transport (bus no. 63, "Nibelungengasse") to the Universitätszentrum Wall, where the opening of the conference will take place.
